Humblebrag: Our Clients Rock
Every few months, we like to put our clients on a pedestal to showcase their successes. We’ve worked with clients in a smorgasbord of verticals. From real estate and education to health and fitness, we’ve redesigned websites and built mobile apps and large-scale enterprise applications in a number of industries. Here, we’d like to put Fresno State’s Save Mart Center on that pedestal.
Dubbed “Top Stops of the Decade” by Venues Today Magazine
In its 16th year as the home of Fresno State’s basketball programs, the Save Mart Center is recognized around the nation as being one of the finest on-campus college arenas, and was recently named the No. 2 top collegiate venue by Pollstar, the leading trade publication for the concert and entertainment industry.
Among the top 200 arenas in the world, only 20 venues are on college or university campuses; Save Mart Center is a part of that list. This popular concert venue also ranks 45th in the United States and 87th worldwide in ticket sales. Venues Today Magazine dubbed the Save Mart Center as one of the Top Stops of the Decade in 2012.¹
The Project
Fresno State reached out to Shift3 to redesign their website, which would serve as their online hub and presence for visitors interested in event info or to purchase tickets in the 16,000-seat arena.
The site redesign included a new look/feel and new UX/UI, while migrating their existing site to an easy-to-navigate content management platform. They also requested highly visible access links to Ticketmaster a point-of-sale integration to accept payments for third-party ticket purchases to events.
One of their main requirements of the redesign was that their event marketing staff needed to have the option to enter event information through a single access point. The previous version of their site required users to input information across multiple pages and social media channels, which was cumbersome and at times tedious.
The Shift3 team met with Save Mart Center event staff to really discuss overall goals and intended focus, target audience and specific features they wanted added to the site and navigation. Our graphic designers specializing in UX/UI were brought into the fold to map out overarching user experience – from the concert goers to the admin staff.
This project was designed, coded and customized over the span of five months. The development was written in PHP (WordPress) with an Apache server and MySql database, using JavaScript and JQuery to customize functionality (specifically the main page slider).
On the new site we helped develop, their employees simply navigate to one access point to add information that gets automatically published to several different areas.
“I was most impressed with the team Shift3 Technologies brought in at the beginning of the project. During the discovery phase, they made a marked effort to understand what we wanted and to guide us in the best possible direction. Shift3 Technologies used modern best practices to streamline the site and make it easier to navigate. They were very knowledgeable about what the focus of an event arena website should be.” Association IT Director, CSU Fresno

Our redesign streamlined their content operations and resulted in a much more professional-looking site, putting an emphasis on user experience from the back and front end. The platform has been in operation for well over two years and they haven’t had any issues with the functionality.
