Beef-ormation for the Masses
Shift3 Technologies is thrilled to introduce the launch of Wow that Cow, an instructional website developed to educate second, third and fourth graders about the importance of beef cows in our lives, diet and ecosystem. The website features fun, colorful interactive puzzles, games and stories to help foster student (and adult) engagement while learning all about cows, beef cuts and beef byproducts.
Accessible on all smart devices and web browsers, Wow that Cow was an educational endeavor imagined by the Tulare County Cattlewomen Association (TCCW) and sponsored by fifteen cattlewomen and cattlemen associations and beef advocacy groups throughout California.
Answering the Age-old Question: Where’s the Beef?
For the past seventy years, the Tulare County Cattlewomen have dedicated themselves to educating the world of the basic importance of the livestock industry with a focus on beef nutrition, food safety and convenience. Every member of the TCCW has committed to volunteer their time and efforts to the education and promotion of the beef industry in California and beyond.
In the United States alone, the number of vegans in America grew by 600% from nearly 4 million in 2014 to 19.6 million in 2017. In addition, 1 in 3 Americans have stopped or reduced their meat consumption. Noticing the increase in these numbers and society’s shift to plant-based diet options, cattlewomen and cattlemen associations feel it’s their duty to educate the masses from a young age on the nutritional benefits of beef, in addition to the overall impact of the livestock industry and its positive byproducts. The TCCW want to stress that there is more to beef than just a good steak.
Beef-ucation Starts at a Young Age
Keeping educational tools in mind, the Association channeled their passion for beef education (beef-ucation?) and promotion into a fully scalable, web-based application. Wow that Cow was built using HTML/CSS and JavaScript – all with a focus on user experience and engagement in children.
The TCCW began to partner with elementary schools and teachers to start allowing students to visit the website on their class tablets regularly. The puzzles, games and quizzes really garner the attention of children and honestly, many adults. TCCW would like to keep spreading the word about Wow that Cow to other local schools, so that children in the central valley – the heart of ag country – learn about the importance of beef in our lives.
To use Wow that Cow, simply visit www.wowthatcow.com on any smart device or web browser. The site is free to use for children and adults of all ages. For more information about the Tulare County Cattlewomen Association, click here.
